Subject: Multiple, Simultaneous, and Conflicting Emotions

Greetings, Beloved ACTO Community,

Since we announced the decision to sunset ACTO in June, many of you have shared your reactions to the news. Every ACTO Forum and Community Conversation (which we are still running through June!) has begun with some sharing about the impact of that decision. We’ve also received many kind and affirming email messages that speak to ACTO’s impact in and on the coaching profession.

While sadness and a sense of pending loss are common, the most consistent themes have been:

  • Gratitude for the support ACTO has provided Coach Training Organizations for the past quarter-century
  • Grace for the struggles ACTO has faced trying to rebuild a sense of community in a post-Covid world
  • Compassion for the Board having the courage to make this emotion-laden decision

A few weeks ago, we had the equally difficult task of coming to you to ask for financial support to allow us to sunset ACTO with dignity, grace, integrity—and to do so debt-free. We had no idea how the community would respond (though we were optimistic), and you responded so quickly and so beautifully. As you read this message, we can share that we are within sight of our “sunset goal”! And whether or not you donated funds to our campaign, the well-wishes and love we received from so many of you have reminded us why ACTO has mattered for so long. Your generosity, encouragement, and shared commitment to this profession have affirmed the legacy we built together and the impact that will continue long after this chapter closes. For that, we are deeply grateful.

Now it’s our turn to express Gratitude back to all of you.

THANK YOU!

The ACTO Board

P.S. It’s not too late to support our GoFundMe campaign here or scan the QR Code below. Our goal was an estimate of future expenses to complete our business and fund archives, close the books with our accountant, and so on. As we have never “closed” before, we don’t know what we might have missed, and your support is helping us sunset with care for all affected.
