Subject: An Important Update About ACTO’s Future

tl;dr ACTO will sunset on 30 June 2026, with transparency and grace.

Dear ACTO Members and Alumni,

As your Board of Directors, we have held both the mission and community of ACTO with deep care, responsibility, and heart. Over the past several months, we have been closely reviewing our financial picture, staffing capacity, and organizational sustainability. After many thoughtful discussions and exploration of options, we have reached a difficult but unavoidable decision.

ACTO will conclude operations at the end of the current membership year and will formally sunset as an organization on June 30, 2026.

This was not a decision made lightly. We recognize the meaningful legacy that ACTO has created across the global coaching community. We also recognize the trust that our members have placed in us to steward this organization with integrity, care, financial responsibility, and transparency. While we hold sadness in this moment, we are also committed to closing in a way that reflects the best of who we are as a coaching community and with respect for ACTO’s values and The Stand.

Why This Decision Was Made

Over time – notably, since COVID – ACTO has experienced a significant and continuous decline in sustaining membership and revenue, while operating costs have remained relatively constant. After reviewing multiple scenarios and potential pathways, it became clear that we simply do not have the funds to operate beyond this current membership cycle without incurring significant financial and legal risk.

In alignment with our fiduciary responsibility, our focus now is to ensure we meet all remaining commitments, continue providing value through the end of the member year next June, and close with clarity, compassion, and completeness. 

What You Can Expect Over the Coming Months

  • Ongoing communication with clear timelines and milestones
  • Continued access to scheduled (and archived) programming through the membership year, including Community Conversations and monthly English-language Forums as scheduled (see calendar below)
  • A shift in the final months toward member connection, reflection, and closure
  • Thoughtful and transparent handling of finances, records, and obligations
  • Direct communication with any member impacted by off-cycle dues timing

Our goal is to bring the organization to a graceful close, leaving nothing unfinished, nothing unsaid, and nothing concealed.

Honoring Our Community

For over two decades, ACTO has contributed to raising standards, elevating training quality, and championing equity and ethics in coach education. That impact is real, and it lives on through each of you, your students, and the organizations you influence.

We intend to create space near the end of the membership cycle (May and June) for members and alumni to gather, reflect, and honor the sunsetting of this chapter together.

In Closing

Endings, when done with honesty, transparency, and dignity, can be one of the most challenging and courageous acts of leadership any organization can hope to experience. We remain grateful for your partnership, your advocacy, and your belief in ACTO’s mission. Together, we will sunset this forward-thinking organization with the same care and professionalism with which it was built.
