Steve Heller
Steve Heller is a dynamic and experienced leadership coach who is drawn
to working with leaders seeking to take their personal effectiveness to the
next level. Steve brings to the work a genuine commitment to his clients’
personal development and professional success. Those clients have
included corporate leaders, social entrepreneurs, public sector leaders,
educators, non-profit executives, attorneys, and scientists, in organizations
ranging in size from startups to multinational conglomerates.
Since 2005, Steve has coached hundreds of leaders in the US and around
the world in nearly every functional role of organizational life, within the
public, private, and social sectors. His coaching clients have held positions
in government agencies at the federal and local level, in commercial
organizations large and small, in academia, research institutions,
consultancies, at associations, banks, law firms, and philanthropies.
In 2016 and 2022, Steve participated in the design and delivery of unique,
customized leadership development workshops for key members of White
House staff, at the request of the Obama and Biden administrations.
Steve served as Director of the Georgetown University Leadership Coaching
certificate program from January of 2015 through early 2017, building on his
six years of experience as an Adjunct Faculty member.
He is a President Emeritus of the Washington, DC chapter of the
International Coaching Federation (ICF) and served for many years on its
Board of Directors.
Steve holds a Certificate in Leadership Coaching from Georgetown
University, a BSE degree from the Johns Hopkins University and an MSE
degree from the University of Pennsylvania.
Since its founding in 2016, he has been an active member of Undoing
Racism, a DC-based anti-racism group of coaches focused on creating
generative dialogues, connections, and relationships that dismantle racism.
His pro bono work includes serving as an occasional guest lecturer at the
National War College, coaching TED Fellows, and serving as a small group
facilitator for the U.S. Department of Justice’s SPIRIT (School-Student
Problem Identification and Resolution of Issues Together) program.
Steve resides in the Washington, DC suburb of Lorton, Virginia with his wife
Joan, and has two grown children and four grandchildren, about each of
whom he will proudly boast with the slightest provocation.
